Since the world didn't end, I thought I'd make something to celebrate. After all, a certain darkness has passed and now light begins to grow. Here's some of it, a clear morning light falling on the ingredients for Mayan Bittersweet Huckleberry Whisky Truffles.
Stir 200g Montana huckleberries into 200g gently melted Belgian bittersweet chocolate, along with 2 oz. of blended Scottish whiskey—a toast to Christopher Hitchens for his go-to beverage. Grate just a couple whiffs of lemon peel into the mix and chill briefly.
When the mixture is ready form it into balls and roll in Mayan magic dust—an apocalyptic blend of Dutch cocoa, chili powder, cinnamon, and vanilla powder. Hold on, not done yet; dip these in more melted chocolate and briefly chill again. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Serve to survivors. Celebrate with them and be happy.
